Weaving is one of the world’s oldest hand crafts for producing textiles. Weaving is defined as two sets of yarns or threads, interlaced at right angles, to form a fabric or cloth.
Intro to Weaving:
In the ‘Intro to Weaving’ class, students will learn the fundamentals of hand weaving and the basic weave structures plain weave, basket weave, ribs and twills.
Tapestry Weaving:
Le Corbusier once called tapestry weaving “nomadic murals.” Tapestry weaving is a hand weaving technique using a simple loom to create woven images, like paintings. It is a ‘weft-faced’ weaving technique in which the warp (vertical) yarns are hidden, and the weft (horizontal) yarns create intricate images and designs. Tapestry weaving is a great introduction to weaving for beginners, and especially for fine artists who would like to explore translating visual/graphic arts into woven surfaces.
